During
2001 some young people in Ealing heard of something called 24/7 prayer
and became enthused with the idea of having a room where prayer could take
place
nonstop for a whole week. In October of that year such a prayer room was
set up at Haven Green Baptist Church to pray for our Borough of Ealing,
and it became a place where many people experienced God’s presence
in a new way. From that time was birthed a longing to see continuing, united,
passionate prayer for the transformation of the Borough.
A
small group of people got together to facilitate other prayer events, including
large celebrations in Town Halls as well as weeks/days of prayer in prayer
rooms at various churches across the Borough. At the same time, a number
of churches
were joining together for a monthly “Praise and Worship” Celebration;
prayer walking in central Ealing had been regularly taking place for some time;
and smaller regular prayer groups were meeting in the Borough. As these often
involved the same people it was decided to combine all these events under the
title of “Pray Ealing”.
