Prayer & Proclamation for Acton

Prayer & Proclamation for Acton

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon you, because the Lord has anointed you to preach good news to the poor. He has sent you to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for those held captive, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. You will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendour.
(based on Isaiah 61:1-3)

Father we declare that You are the source of all life and that in Jesus we may have life to the full. We thank You that You have provided all that we need and that when You give it is good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over! May Your light and goodness shine brighter in the many areas of Acton bringing transformation and reality to the community.

We thank You that You do not give up on us and we ask that we might not give up on You. Where our lives are barren and desolate, may life and beauty come forth into that which is wilderness and desert. We acknowledge that so often we have forsaken You the spring of living water and have dug our own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. May we turn back to You as the One who brings life and healing. We pray that we will be a people who bring wholeness to all in Acton who are in need of Your touch on their lives.

We pray that any rubbish which is blocking the release of what You want for our lives, be washed away and for a new sense of freedom and liberty. We pray that Acton will again be known for its cleansing properties and become a place of brightness and light. Help us not to feel that we have just got to survive and live our lives in a dry, desolate and make-believe situation because that’s the way things appear to be, but to recognise the fullness of life that comes from knowing You. We rejoice that our self worth, significance and security is fully found in You.

We pray that You would deal with any wounded relationships between local churches/organisations where hurts have occurred, as well as bringing comfort to those who have been hurt by the church. Just as Acton was once known as a place of healing, we pray for Your Spirit to bring healing and restoration, particularly where there has been rivalry and division We are grateful that You are the Lord who heals and so we give thanks that the life which flows from You brings healing to the many nations that live in Acton.

May the Church of Acton be known as a lighthouse and beacon of integrity in the community, displaying the light and glory of who You are. May we not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be sensitively intolerant of all that is wrong. As the Body of Christ in this area we pray that we will come together in alignment with everyone working in their right place and move forward as one, focussing on that which is important rather than any differences.

Amen
