Prayer for Ealing Churches Based on Romans 12 In view of God’s mercy, we pray that the congregations of believers in Ealing will present the different expressions of Christ’s body to God as living sacrifices. This is holy and pleasing to God and this is our spiritual act of worship. We pray that the body of Christ in this Borough will no longer conform to the pattern of this world, but aim to be radically different in their thinking from those outside the kingdom. For as a united body we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is for Ealing - His good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace God has given, may the different groups that make up the Church in Ealing say to one another: “We will not think of our congregation more highly than we ought, but have a sound assessment of our strengths and qualities, in accordance with the measure of faith that God has worked in us as a group of Christians”. We pray that the Church in Ealing will recognise that just as each person has one body with many organs and parts, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ all the many believers in Ealing form one united body of Christ, and each congregation belongs to all the others. Each one has a distinctive and unique role to play, according to God’s grace. Where one congregation is known for its charismatic insights, let it pledge to use them in proportion to its faith to enrich the others. Where one is strong in missions or intercession, may they serve the others. Where one group of believers has strong Bible teaching, let them share this resource with others. Where one fellowship is known for its children’s work, its youth group, or its evangelism, may they take the lead in this to bless the others. Where one congregation is materially prosperous may they enrich the poorer ones – giving generously. Where one group is known for insightful leadership, may they diligently inspire others and take the initiative. Where another group is rich in mercy ministries, may they cheerfully serve in this way. Love among the various groups of believers in Ealing must be genuine. Each one is not to condone sin; but rather cling to what is good. We pray that the different congregations within Ealing will be devoted to one another in brotherly love. May we honour other fellowships above our own. May we never be lacking in zeal, but keep our spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. May we be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. May all of God’s people across the congregations in the Borough of Ealing, share with those who have particular needs. Let us practice hospitality towards one another. Should any congregation be maligned by another or be gossiped about, we pray that they will do the opposite and say good things about them. We pray that there will be a celebration of the success of other groups and sorrow with those who are having a hard time. Let each congregation live in harmony with every other fellowship. May we not be proud, but be willing to associate with those of low position and not be conceited. May we not repay anyone evil for evil, but be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on us, may we live at peace with everyone. As friends, may we never take revenge, but leave things to God. For it is written: “It is Mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If our enemy is hungry, may they feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, they will heap burning coals on his head.” Finally, may we not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Amen |
